Day 30 - Furniture Shopping

We had a good day on Saturday...

We horsed around most of the morning...of course, you know Micah woke me up before the roosters came crowing and I just decided to go along with it.  It's useless being irritated when woken up by a toddler who insists that you wake up for no more than the simple fact that he's awake.

After taking Grandma to church, Micah and I headed across the bridge to PA in order to check out the President's Day sale at Raymour & Flanigan's.

My sofa bed is falling apart.  It's really not that surprising though.  I bought all of my furniture (except for my bed and Micah's crib) from a local furniture rental clearance center.

When I first moved into my apartment, I just needed the bare minimum in order to get us comfortable so the furniture was the perfect price for my budget.  But now, after numerous uses of the sofa and the bed (I used to sleep on the sofa bed to escape Micah lol...didn't work!), the sofa is finally falling apart.  It's time to get better quality furniture.

However, I'm going to take it a step at a time.  I just ordered my sofas from Raymour & Flanigan's.  In a few months, I'll buy a new setup for my home office.  With my new job, I have way too many computers and equipment for my little ol' desk.  Next, will be a new bedroom set.  All I have right now is a chest of drawers and that's ready to fall off the hinges too.  Next step will be to buy a new entertainment center for the living room.  I'm really thinking about getting the television mounted to the wall and have shelves mounted to prevent Micah from touching anything.

That should be tricky, though. As Micah gets older, he's getting more strategic in his thinking.  He will find a way to touch it. I just know he will!

Where did this change in plans come from, you might ask? I've decided to hold off another year or two before purchasing a home. I've realized that I have been putting way too much pressure on myself to buy this house.  I have to take some time to save up some more money and devote some time for Micah and I to travel and have fun.  I don't want to buy a house and be stuck doing nothing with him for the next couple of years.  At the end of the day, I am a single mom and I'm not trying to take on one more thing that will suck the life out of me.  I want to be able to enjoy these precious years with Micah.  Therefore, it is on halt!

Now, I got completely off topic.  Isn't it weird how you catch yourself writing the same way you think?

Anyway...Micah was really great at the furniture store.

He didn't touch anything or have a tantrum or anything like that. I didn't even need to have that "conversation" with him before we walked into the store. You know, the one where you pull your child aside and in a hushed tone say, "Don't touch ANYTHING!"

He was the perfect little gentleman.  The salesman gave Micah a balloon and he spent the majority of the time seeing how high the balloon could go.  He didn't even pay attention to all of the little knick knacks he could touch.  I was pleasantly surprised. It made the trip go that much smoother.  We were actually in and out in less than 30 minutes.  So proud of my little man!

Here's the set I ended up purchasing...what do you think?

I only got the 2 smaller ones.  The sofa was almost 9 feet long -
way too long for my living room/home office!
